Hey, I was checking the Presonus Firepod for my studio but I was wondering what does it exactly do?

It's a Firewire interface with eight analog inputs.

It's very popular around here. If you do a search on 'Firepod' you'll find out just how popular, and get some opinions on it to boot.

Rep Pts to SSSci..for suggesting a search with out saying it like an ass.

I was new here too once, still am basically.....and enjoyed the help and courtesy I got.

Amen to that! :D

I checked out the firepod today and a few other alternatives.

I bought the MOTU 828Mk2 instead because I dont need all the Mic preamps, Im a keyboard player that focuses on live recording of trance, dance and other synth based music. I also record music for video games and theatre productions that contain little or no lyrics.

One thing i didnt like about the Presonus fireport was the fact that the majority of its inputs are front mounted and as far as i can make out it will not work as a stand alone mixer whereas the MOTU 828 will.

The MOTU unit has the majority of its cables at the rear as should all rack mounted equipment in my opinion. I dont want a birds nest of cables at the front of the rack, I have far too many cables around the place as it is.

I was also told by the sales guy that the firepod will not record more than 6 inputs simultaneously at 96Khz but the MOTU can.

The MOTU was on sale and cost me around $40 canadian more than the firepod and I have 30 days to change my mind (plenty long enough to try it out)

Eventually I will need more inputs and may daisychain another MOTU or another firepod to the MOTU which apparenty is quite feasable.

Now I just have to get used to using onboard mixing :o
