What is a DeEsser effect?

The De-esser is used to eliminate the silibant snake-like HISS from words that end in SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Some vocalists lisp that sound and often it needs reduction.

Fricatives, on the other hand, are softened by a POP screen, as are plosives or explosive sounds, like a strong B or P, etc.
