I've got instrument cables from my local guitar shop, and from horizon. i've also got this one instrument cable that i use when recording to go from the guitar or bass to a DI box.

i use this one cable because it seems to have WAY less noise than any of the other instrument cables i have... but it doesn't have a brand.

i'm considering buying either Carver or Monster instrument cables, but i want to know what everyone else is using.

I'm always in pursuit of a better s/n ratio in my little one-room home studio.

I made about 95% of all the cableing in my studio. Beldon wire and mostly Switchcraft connectors with some Canairs thrown in.

You forgot to add Belden, Mogami and Canare.

Anyway, I use Monster cables, but also have some Blue mic cables that work quite well.

Canare cables, nuetrik connectors...when I can. I do still use some proco, cable up, and horizon for a few things, but I will replace these as soon as I can with canare.

Le Cabels....Si`

Yo crossing studio:

I forgot to mention, but there was no space there, that I also use Mogami cables.

I have one expensive mic cable that I bought -- this company, namely ZAOLLA, was bought by Hosa because Hosa did not have a quality line of cables, according to the voices herein.

The Zaolla has a solid silver main core and it does do a nice job; however, the techical reasons are beyond my ken.

Pro Co stuff has always been reliable for me. I bought a mid-expensive Monster cable for my synth and it does a nice job.

But, now that I use the Yam 2816, the 16 bit sound quality is wonderful and the cables just make it better.

i didn't put in Mogami, Belden, or Canare because I didn't know about them.

one thing i'm not going to do is make my own cables. i spend enough time screwing around with acoustic foam and other non-actual-recording type of stuff. you gotta cut your losses somewhere.

i'm going to take a ride up to Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center this week, and see if i can take a look at these cables for myself. based on this poll, i'll know which ones to bother looking at.

Monster. I'm still using old ones that have been through hell at gigs, and they're still perfect.

Beldon or Mogami with Switchcraft ends. Thats it.

for store-bought, B.L.U.E. makes some excellent mic cables - cheaper than Monster and better constructed.

holy crap these friggin' things are expensive.

maybe i will make them myself. how much should i expect to pay for belden wire and switchcraft connectors, and what's the best soder to use?

i wanted to buy 8 - 3 foot patch cables (1/4"), and 2 or 3 - 10' instrument cables.

monster wants $40 for a 12' cable!

No name brand from crap shack for the most part...

I don't know... Some may resist, but I seem to get some decent sounds through them..;)

VOX, you're right in that very often the difference between luxury and crappy cables is not that noticeable... when both are brand new. It's when the crappy ones have had a chance to oxidize for a few years that the difference becomes profound. On an instrument cable this is no big deal - you're probably going to buy new ones every few years anyway. Where it becomes important is when you are hardwiring patchbays, running cables through channels under floors, etc. - things you definitely don't want to have to redo any time soon!

Using the gear I have listed below, is it really worth it to change my Rodam pro series cables to Monster cables? Yes or No?
I keep them short for recording and they suffer no abuse in my home.
They have lifetime warranty also.

Monster or Mogami are the cleanest signal cables I've used. Making your own is a cheaper route to high quality cables...

Canare with Neutrik connectors myself.

EIT: Sheesh, another 5 year old thread resurrected from a poll.

Right angle vs. staight

What about all these right angle shananigans are better than straight? What's the deal with that?

Be careful. If you put your signal through too many right angle connectors, you'll wind up with square waves!

:p ;)

Think its sommer cables with Neutrik connectors, but a few have Cannon XLR's on them. Ran out of Neutrik whilst making them........
