Very cool. thanks! never heard of a Sarod before, but I have heard it before, just didn't know what was making the sound.

The wailing sound that satarts at about 0:53 is not a sarod. It's a bowed instrument called a sarinda, or saranda

I can't add embedded links yet, but search youtube for "Peshawar Geo Sarinda n Sarandanwaz" for an example
 
I think it's a sarangi.

It's a kind of Indian violin that does those wailing swoops. It could also be a dilruba

which does the same kind of thing. I don't think it's the israj, which I think has a slightly harsher sound.

By the way, the sarod is a great little instrument, like a souped up low acoustic guitar with maximum punch.
 
Well that may be the case....though I think you can also make a wailing sound with the Sarod as shown in the video.

Listen to it where it comes in again at 1:40, it's clearly a bowed instrument.

Whether sarinda or sarangi, well that's liking telling violin from viola.
