Slowing becoming un-noob.
Here's a photo from the Muse HAARP dvd. It looks like a guitar head, although it really could be anything I suppose. This picture doesn't show much. But I'll try to get a closer up shot here.

EDIT: I got a couple other closer shots.

This is reminiscent of the old Roland Space echo... but that had only one meter and it was square...
Now, I'm curious!!

Peace,

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it's probably a strobe tuner of some sort.

To me it looks like some sort of power amplifier, with the VU meters and everything.

Now I'm super curious, I'm browsing thru pics on online retailers sites. If I spot it, I'll post a link.

I'm guessing some sort of tube mic pre/compressor/limiter. It might be worth trying to see if anyone can ID it over in the Rack forum.

Alright, I'll post it over there. Thanks.

i think i saw the charlatans with the same piece of kit....get the impression they like it coz it looks cool with the lights off....

This Is What It Is!

Someone found it on another forum.

It's called a Fineline Stage Enhancing unit. Whatever the hell that does.

Here's a better picture

Anyone know what this does?

somehow i doubt that it does anything but look cool. wierd control names. cool lights. all controls go to 11. looks like a prop to me, sort of like the old funk logic rack panels. not to mention that google only really brings up a muse wiki and this thread.

I bet you hit the nail on the head!
Too funny.... the guy that thought of this bit of silly-ness has way too much time on his hands... of course it doesn't say much for us who were trying to figure it out, either!

"UK - Bristol-based fabrication specialists Fineline designed and built several specially customised items for Muse's summer stadium shows for production manager Chris Vaughan of The Production Office. "

just googled muse band and fineline so maybe its not just a prop:)

It's probably just an amp head that was custom built, and all of the controls just have random labels. As long as the user knows what the knobs do, the labels don't make any difference.

They're two different units, the first pic has a group of five knobs to the right of the right hand meter, the other has only three. The first has one knob under the left dial, the other has knobs beneath both dials. etc.

They look very similar, probably different units made by the same maker (fineline). But they are different.

It's a special order edible condom tester - opacity, elasticity, sweetness etc.
Imagine - uber rich softrock tosser says to audio snob tech, "I need some good head." Tech thinks, "Rich tosser!" but says, "yeah, like?". Uber rich softrock tosser starts spouting adjectives and nouns like an impressionist on absinthe. Tech smilingly utters, "yeah, I have just the thing, Sting ordered one 2 years ago." URSRT thinks for a moment and then responds with, "Ah, is he using it on the reunion tour?", Tech, "nah!" URSRT stutters, "Yeah, that'd be cool I suppose, especially if Gordon wanted one - Even better be sure to put OUR band name on it OK?" " Tuesday right, my people will contact you. Oh, & VU's! Must have VU whateveries - none of those LED things, they're so Keane!"
