Hello everyone,

I''m really a newbie to midi but want to learn very hard.

I have connected my viscount viva x digital piano to my computer by using the gamecontroller port. The piano is GM compatible.
When I open cubase I go the the device menu and enters a new device by the midi part.
I also have set my piano by outsending at 1 (i can choose a range of 1-16)
Now when I'm trying to record things it doesn't work. I won't get any signal in.
I already have checked the cable but they seem to be allright.

What have I done wrong.

Can someone tell me that??

I'm confused. Are you trying to record the output of the Viscount into cubase? Are you trying to do that via the MIDI cable? The MIDI port only transfers data, not audio. You need to have the audio outputs of the viscount hooked up to your soundcards inputs, in addition to the MIDI cable.

I have found when using a midi instrument that your software must first reconize what you are using for example I have a yamaha xg keyboard. when you go to your midi listing for instruments scroll down till you see your instrument listed and click on it. If it is not there you need to read your manual and see what you need to do to get it on your software list to get a out signal to your computer.

I have indeed also audio cables attached in addition. However I believed that when you played something on your instrument and you have the midi cables attached you could get those data into cubase or any other program and that the computer will transfer it into sound. Because later on I also want to use finale to plot down notes.
So what can I do with midi into cubase???? Can't I just get midi data into my computer by the midi cables and record that???

I connected my Viscount with the midi cables and can send out now, because my viscount is configured corectly. A led is flashing when I send out midi. Howeve, cubase didn't have my viscount in the list, but I just used all GM compatible instruments and tought I would be ready. Do I have to do also something else???

No, you have to route the data to a MIDI device that can respond to the MIDI messages by playing sounds. You can route the sound back the keyboard via the MIDI interface, or to an on-board sound-making device, like a VST plug-in synth.

Is your keyboard sending MIDI on a particular channel? Perhaps you're not recording it because your MIDI track is set to receive MIDI on a different channel.

But on my viscount I can set the outch. in a range of 1 to 16.I now have it on one. Right???
Cubase also says it is on one. Still I don''t get any signal in.
But I also played some midifiles in cuabse and send those out to my gs synth soudcard, because that is where the midi interface is connected to, but I also don't get any signal on my viscount. However, I know for sure that the viscount is configured right and that the cables are good???

I'm totally stucked.

Oh I also wanted to say.

Do I have to configure things in win xp????
