Nice interface. I was gonna get one once, but I think they stopped making them. Any one got any inside info?

I just bought one off ebay but I havent set it up yet (school exams coming up, parents say it will be a distraction.)

What do you want to know and I'll try and answer.

Joe

Damn that kinda sucks. I should last me a while yet until I really need to upgrade (this is my first recording purchase).

Thanks for showing me that.

Joe

Thre's always help from other owners of the DIGI001, but no upgrades from Digidesign.

That link is not an accurate assesment of the situation at all. PCI interfaces are having to change to keep up with firewire and USB 2.0 (If it does not keep up then it will be a thing of the past). So much so that the new G5's PCI X does not produce enough power to run the DIGI001 interface (its 100mhz faster but just does not push as much power as the older PCI). Digidesign is just trying to stay ahead of the game.

It would have been nice if they could offer an upgrade of the car (not the box) to make it compatible with the new PCI specs.
Motu did with their cards, so it's technically feasible.

Regardless of the situation, the point is Digi is dropping the ball on the DIGI 001, NO MORE UPGRADES!

Yes the 001 still good, but that's not the point.....

Oh well, I guess I should throw away my worthless 001 and never use it again. Now that it's not supported by future Pro Tools releases, it doesn't work anymore, right?
;)

What are you smoking?

Why are you talking about Mhz when the bus speeds are measured in bandwidth (Mbytes/sec)?

USB 1.1 - 1.25Mbytes/sec
USB 2.0 - 50Mbytes/sec
Firewire - 50Mbytes/sec
Firewire 800 - 100Mbytes/sec

PCI starts at 100Mbytes/sec and can go even faster.

your right! But I was not really comparing speed. By power I meant it cannot power the 001. Look at all the new interfaces that are comming out.....why are you questioning it when I say "PCI needs to Keep up"

Why is that even a factor?

Who cares if it gets power from the bus its connected to?

I don't know, ask someone with a laptop

I do and I'd never use a bus powered device with it, especially if it was providing phantom power to mics. I really don't like cutting my battery life in half. I'd go out and buy a car battery and power inverter instead rather than depend on the laptop's battery to power a recording session if I didn't have access to a 110V outlet.

why is what a factor. 001 is not compatible with the G5's PCI-X. If PC's end up with a similar upgrade the 001 will not be compatible with PC's either.

Who cares if it gets its power from the bus its connected to? I would if the bus it was connected to could not power the unit.
