I appreciate all the help that I have received here at Home Recording and as I had stated, I will be asking many questions throughout this project...

I have designed a Home Recording Studio to be in the basement of my New Home I am building. Will be using this for myself as well as some commercial work, so want to make sure I have everything up to par...

My background has been Analog for about 30 years, so please bear with me on this. New to the digital age of recording...

I have a Carvin SL56 Studio Live Series 56-Channel (8-Bus) Mixing Console that will be the main component in this studio...

I also have built an Athlon XP2100+ Computer System with 2GB of DDR Ram using the Asus A7V266-E DDR Motherboard. System will have (1) 40GB HD for the OS and (5) 80GB 7200RPM Removeable HD's for Recording Media of my Tracks. I have also just purchased the Cakewalk SONAR XL 2.0 Software as many had recommended...

The audio board that someone here had recommended was the MOTU Audio 2408 MKII which I am getting ready to order...

I also have an Alesis ADAT HD24 that can be implimented into this studio if I so desire...

1st Question is: How does one go about interfacing the Carvin Console with the Computer System running SONAR XL 2.0???

2nd Question is: Will it be useful to use the Alesis ADAT HD24 with the Console and the SONAR Software and what should I need to interface these together???

3rd Question is: How would I go about connecting all these components to make it work correctly???

4th Question is: What would be some excellent Effects, Compressors, and Equalizer's to use within this system???

I guess I have asked enough for now. As I stated, I am new to this Digital Age and just don't want to spend any unnecessary $$$ for something that would be useless...

I appreciate any info that someone may be able to apply to my situation...

Thanks again,

This would be done by running cables from the line outs on your mixer (or from inserts) to the inputs on your 2408. Since you don't really need the ADAT, I would say sell it, and with the money buy a couple Alesis AI-3's and hook those up to your 2408. These are much cheaper than the expansion units MOTU makes and should work just as well. You may not need that many ins and outs, so get what you need. Once you have this all hooked up, you should be able to access your ins and outs from SONAR.

The Waves suite of plugins are some of the best Direct-X/VST plugins you can get. They're kinda pricey, but you get what you pay for. An economical alternative is the Ultrafunk Sonitus suite of plugins. They cost a heck of lot less than the Waves plugs and I find them to be quite nice (for the money).
