What goes on the walls in a vocal booth?

I'm trying to build a 5'x5' vocal isolation booth, but i'm not sure what to line the walls with. Normal auralex foam seems to suck all of the high-end out of the vocal sound. Or maybe i'm crazy.

Any ideas, or should I stick to auralex type foam and add EQ?

well, that is a big problem that is faced when you build a 5 by 5 booth. There is no way to make good reverb, which also means you will suck out all of the high ends. Try using something like Owens Corning 703 insulation. Get the kind iwth the foil side, and face the foil out. That will help a little, but losing the high frequencies will be a hit you will have to take in a 5 by 5 room.

you aren't going to get any decent 'room sound' out of a 5 by 5 booth so the plan is to make it dead and to add your own reverb as needed. the real problem is not that you are sucking out the highs and mids but that the bass is still booming away there. So you need a thick layer (3 or 4 inches) of 703 fiberglass on one or two walls. The foil facing is not really necessary for the extra cost. It is the Fiberglass that is doing the real absorbtion.

cover the fiberglass with a layer of acoustically open fabric so you won't itch to death if you touch it. Absorbtion is never just a surface issue, it is always a matter of letting the sound into the material and then disrupting the energy.
