Hi,

I would have to say that rap seems to be easily the most hated genre in this forum...with that in mind, I ask that you check out my humble reinterpretation of an early '90's rap tune by cypress hill (hispanic rappers from east LA somewhat famous for their minor hit "insane in the brain").

I looked at it as challenge to try to reconstruct some of the sounds without an 808, sampling capabilities, etc. It was harder than I expected to simulate samples in real time. Playing the same little bit the same way over and over was not as easy as I thought, but, for better or worse, I stuck with it.

This mix, more than any other of mine, sounds very different depending on what it is played on...which I take to be a bad sign. Sounds pretty big on the stereo, but smaller and boxy on soundclick. I apologize in advance for the mild profanity - violent themes, etc. It comes with the territory. Hopefully you'll find this to be a fun (or at least funny) listen.

Thanks,

cypress hill is one of the few rap acts I like. From memory of this tune you've got very close to the original arrangement, with the little hooks, drop outs etc. Everything sounds very close to the original, except for the main 2-note bass(keyboard?) which was a little more aggressive. Good job on the vocals - it would have been a mistake to try & emulate that guy's delivery. I'm listening on computer speakers and the mix sounds very good, drums have a good knock and everything's clear

Thanks for listening Bulls...

You are right about the bass (done on electric guitar) as it is a much bigger part of their recording than it wound up being on mine. I really need to purchase a bass guitar (been saying that for years)!
