What effects should I use when i am recording/ mixing down rap vocals. Just want to make my voice sound better.

Man, it really depends on what kind of sound you want for that track. Some basics.....

reverb (not much, dont drown your vocals)
a nice delay
i've seen compressors put on vocals before but its never ever a lot!!
eq your voice.

Do it so it sounds nice. PLEASE DO NOT drown your vocals in effects. They can cause your tracks to be very messy/muddy.

Hope this helps, good luck =]

In Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and above, you can click on the "Vol-EQ-Bus" box in the upper left (just below the toggle to the Edit View), then right click on the in the area at the left end of the track where it shows "Eq/A-Vol-Pan" and a parametric EQ will pop up. Push the buttons left, right, up & down until you like what you hear. It's very easy to use: I showed a beginner how to EQ a Boudhran drum track on one of her songs and she had what she wanted in a few minutes of mousing.
