suppose you wanted to make a CD quality recording on your computer and needed 32 CD quality tracks.

i know technology is getting better and better and cheaper and cheaper. so by this day and age there should be some kinda computer program which could enable this.

what equipment will i need?

That question is so vague and uninformed that I just don't know what to say...

There's all kinds of information in a million different places that explains that kind of thing. I suggest you read up, cuz questions like that are quick to draw the flame, amigo....:)

Go read up for a while, and come back when you have enough information to form a specific meaningful question...;)

I reckon a 1ghz computer with ata100 harddisks and a proper soundcard would be enough.

The next hurdle is software.

One more link:)

www.pcrecording.com

I'm using a 1ghz p3 and a 60gig ibm eied drive and I could pull it off. Just as long as I recorded the drums before I got to far into the process.... Recording 8 tracks while playing 24 might get a bit glitchy.

If you are going to put that many tracks in a song would stay away from cakewalk. It tends to get hard to work with with that many tracks. You will learn tricks to getting your track count down though:)

What makes you think you're going to even need 32 tracks?

My 700MHz PIII Coppermine handles 24 24bit/44.1 tracks without breaking a sweat. I've been recording a long time and have RARELY needed much more than 24 tracks.

hmmm, if you're recording real instruments, you'll need
1)A nice sounding room
2)Some decent mics
3)The knowledge of where to point the mics
4)A decent pre
5)A decent A/D converter
And so on and so on...

Where does this myth come from that all you need is some crazy a*s program downloaded from Kazza to make some rippin' CDs

Welcome Brandon. You're gonna have to be more specific with your computer questions and it seems you need to sit down and do some research before you get started here. Use the search function or just browse through some topics that seem to relate to your needs. Then come back and ask questions with more detail and more knowledge on your end. You will get better responses from those who can help. Everyone here is extrememly knowledgeable and willing to lend a hand if they have enough info to how to answer your question (and you won't be taking stabs in the dark). Good Luck :D
