What equipment should I buy

I am new to this site so bare with me, I have always wanted to record music and I have a basic laptop with Pro Tools 8 LE and a Shure SM57 and SM58, a decent pair of headphones, midi keyboard and some standard active studio monitors. I have just invested in a Macbook Pro as my laptop doesn't have enough power. Anyway I still don't know what other equipment I should buy to get better quality from my recordings. I have been looking at Pre-amps but I don't know which one to get along with a mixer and other equipment to build up a rack but I don't know what to get. Any help would be great. Thanks
 
The gear that you already have is good enough. You're next purchase should be an audio interface. You can get a decent one for around $100.

This. Really should have been one of the first things you bought. But what's done is done.

Then you could think about adding more preamps [in addition to the ones that will most likely be on your interface]. Could also then get some better mics and some better monitors. Maybe an extra screen to add to your laptop, for when you're at home and need more desktop space on the computer. More screens is never a bad idea for that.

If it is something you'll be doing at home a fair bit, rather than on the go, treating the room will do you some good, but will cost a fair bit.

There's lots that you CAN do. But that interface should be most important right now.

Something I've learned...a good DAW (digital audio workstation...your Macbook w/ProTools) can replace the rack stuff in most situations. Tell us more about your recording situation (One mic, one guitar vs. 70-peice orchestra and chamber choir makes a big difference) and the space you are working with (concrete bomb shelter vs. 70,000 seat ampitheatre makes a big difference too) so we can guide you in the right direction.
 
Wait a min.

You can't run pro tools LE 8 without a Digidesign interface.
 
you should also read up on monitors/monitoring and acoustic treatment of your room. very important!
