here is a partial list of what i have
GT AM61 - I love these mics and now have two of them (tube mic)
AT 4033 - I have two of them (great mics!)
at 3525 - I have two of them ( these are great mics for the $80 they sell for on ebay. I paid $200 a few years ago for them new.)
Rode nt1 - i bought one on a whim for $95 on ebay because i heard so many good things about them and i really like it, and think they sound like a warmer 4033, but just a smidge less better overall. Not a bad mic used for $95.
Optimus pzm - I have two and have gotten good results.
Shure sm-58 i also have an AT and a Roland of about the same size and quality.
One Sure and one AT ultra small condensor lapel mics that are made for sax etc. that I have gotten good results with on upright bass by sticking in the soundholes (no excess bleeding/phasing problems.)
I also have an AT drum mic kit thats ok, a cheap sony stereo mic, and a bunch of other odds and ends mics.

What could somebody suggest as my next step. What i think i need are a good ribbon mic and a something that gives a figure 8. I know that most beyers are not figure 8. Should i buy a vintage ribbon that will give me both ribbon and figure 8? I like what I have and have gotten good results. I dont want to spend more than $300 each (ribbon/figure 8).

I know that the obvious question is what kind of music do I want to record. The answer to that is every thing from metal to punk to jazz to ambient. THe band i play with now consists of me on reeds and accordian, two upright basses, drums and piano. I put two at 4033 over the drums, a barcus berry piano pickup on the piano, the small condensors in the uprights, and the gt 61 on me. This is all in one room with no baffling. I have gotten some real good results with what I have. But, i also record myself solo on reeds etc, and record friends loud rock bands. Would a beyer ribbon mic sound a trillion times better on a guitar cab over one of my condensors? Would a atk112 sound megga better on a bass cab over one of my condensors?

What would you all suggest that is quite differant than what i all ready have tha would make my arsenal even better.
thanks,

You don't have any small diaphragm condensers.

And you don't have any "nice" large diaphragm dynamics.

What kind of pre do you have?--Keep in mind that ribbons are very sensitive to impedance matching with the pre. Here, the one with input impedance selector would be the best. Also, your pre should have enough gain and be very quiet to work well with ribbons. Beyer M130 would be a good fig 8 choice on a budget. I doubt though, you could get a nice ribbon mic under $300.

What small diaphram condensors would you recommend.
Also what would you consider a large diaphragm dynamic?

I use the pre's that are on my mixing boards. My main mixer is an alesis studio 24. I see rca and other ribbons like it on ebay, and oktavias, for under $3-400. Are these not really that
great?

I want to add to my locker with some stuff that is quite differant than what I all raedy have.
