Im looking to get into programing drums. Im looking for a program that is good with metal beats easy to tab out and good samples. I seen ezdrummer and i think im gonna start with that. NOW on to my question what do I need to buy, get, install, etc. Do i need a mdi controller do I need an interface??

I've got both ezdrummer and Steven Slate Drums. Both work well and sound good, but ezdrummer is (as the name implies) much easier to set up and use. In all honesty, I ahven't given the SSD program much of a chance. I was fully entrenched with EZD when I got it and being a bit lazy, I wasn't too compelled to get up to speed on SSD. The big selling point, I think, with SSD is the versatility with drum sounds. One can put multiple patches for each drum. They ahve a Three-Snare patch that sounds very good.

For metal stuff, ezd has the DFH expansion pack. If you're looking to make just drum beats, you might not need much else. You would be able to do it all in the computer. EZD has a Solo player that allows you to run EZD as a stand-alone, but I would think you'd want to run it hosted within a DAW, like Cubase.

If you want to do more, then you'll have to let us know what that is so we can offer suggestions.

will i work with cool edit pro 2.0, tabit, Im getting cubase next week but I wanna fool around with it in the mean time.

Beat Craft by acoustica is pretty cool. I just loaded up some dry samples of each drum of my actual acoustic kit and then did all the EQ and effects mumbo jumbo. End result...digital version of your own sound. even though beatcraft is like midi in a visual form its fairly easy to make the drumming sound "real/human".

I have EZDrummer and Adobe Audition 3.0 and it does NOT work with Audition. I do not think it worked with Cool Edit either. I use the demo version of Reaper to run EZDrummer and then I take the audio waves and put them into Audition (not the ideal process and that's also why I am moving away from Audition to ProTools 9 or Sonar).

With EZDrummer, You do not have to have a midi controller. You can do it with the GUI. It will have a midi grid where you can place individual hits in manually. I have done it that way before. Then when you get a messure of music you can loop it or copy and paste it multiple times to get a larger section. Then just make little fills as you see fit to each section. EZ Drummer also has a humanization function that will help make it sound a little more "natural".
