My women really likes it but hates that it is in the living room. I am habitually telling her to not step on the cords and she is habitually stepping on them. I didnt tell her how much teh stuff cost though;)

My ex-wife HATED it. The woman I'm about to marry is the total opposite. Now she doesn't like me to play in a working band (I have a VERY bad track record for getting "caught" in the saddle), the studio and the money that somehow manages to fall into it has her full support. Whenever she catchs me drooling over a new toy she always says "that looks like a good price. You should buy that". I always reply "so, you wanna get married?".

haha, cool thread !

telling her to not step on the cords

guess everyone says that !

well, my exgirlfriend didn't give shit about it, for three years, damn !!
but my NEW girlfriend, well, :p kick ass, she wants to sing and play guitar, and write lyrics,
she wants to do it all by herself, cause she knows that i just wanna record,

i do play drums, and my brother comes over with his marshall to make the neighbours go crazy...

so i've got full support now...

i even spent three months in the states for a course in a pro studio,
and she supported the idea ! ...cool isn't it ?

a guy once told me that when he first met his wife (well wasnt his wife back then) she had to reach over a mixing desc to give him a hand...

and my girlfriend had to reach over the two screens of my recording pc to kiss me three times like they do in belgium :)

My wife has absolutely no interest in it.

She knows how much money I spend on it, and she knows I'd probably rather do that than almost anything else. She doesn't care, in the least, for it, but she usually seems moderately impressed when I produce something new, which lately is hardly ever. Even if it's not her type of music that I do, or that she's not familiar with the songs, per se,... after about the 100th or so repeat listening on tracking or mixdown, she'll often be found to be humming or singing along with my takes. Haha.

She sees that I like to spend a lot of my free time just playing, practicing & plinking around on the guitar, bass or piano, and she doesn't seem to mind. I asked her once if she was happy that I was playing the lesser used "blue" bass, and she said she never notices which instrument or color of guitar I'm playing.

She doesn't care that I spend most of my money on music gear, or that I spend most of my time in musical pursuits, as long as she can spend almost as much money as she wants & spend all her time on her own hobby: geneaology.

Fact is, she's indifferent to the whole thing. Other than understanding that's what I like to do, and letting me do my thing. As long as it doesn't interfere with her watching TV or anything else she may be doing, she just appreciates that music's a part of who I am & it's what like to do, without paying much attention to it.

Not that I'm trying to impress the wife, far from it, but it's always a little reward to get her hooked into my infectious grooves! It's hard not to get hooked in, after 1000 repeat listenings!

Now, my ex-wife,... probably didn't like it,... disliked it more than being uninterested, because at the time I probably spent more time on recording than I did on her! That probably has something to do with why she's the ex!

My girlfriend has absolutely no interest in music (listening and making) or music/recording technology.

I tell her she can use my gear if ever she needs to (we own a house and a spare room is my studio - lucky eh?), but of course, she would never have a need for digital editing, mastering or MIDI programming...

She just about tolerates me spending a rare Saturday afternoon making music - although I feel I need to justify doing it rather than just saying 'I'm doing it for fun'...

:(

She likes it and supports it, she just bought me a Variax for my birthday! The studio is in a spare room in the house so it doesn't mess things up. She knows it's just a hobby - no other goals than having fun. But she also knows that it's my way of coping and keeping my stresslevels in the green area - in that sense I need it. Compared to the time and money some of my friends throw at golf it's peanuts anyway.

Of course it helps that she sings and plays some bass too.

My girlfriend went to Sound School. Shes pretty supportave, she encourages me to buy stuff when I don't think I can afford it :) She gets angry to hear me talking about something and not buying it hah. She went to about 14 of my bands shows before I found out she didnt know what guitar I played at every single show!
