What does this mix need?

Alright, so far this mix sounds like poo. I've got 2 guitars, bass, kick, snare, and 2 overheads. I'm mostly concerned about the guitars. I don't play guitar so I really don't know how to get them to sound good. Any advice would be appreciated.

sounds like the perfect mix to me. I love the panning on the hacksaw...maybe more cowbell.

Everything sounds like it's occupying the same sonic space-get some pan positions going for the guitar and toms.

Some compression on the percussion wouldn't be a bad idea but keep it cool-about 2:1 ratio or thereabouts.A little compression on mixdown never hurt anything either.

But before all of this, make sure your gain stages are intact for everything that is in your signal chain.Turn it up then tame it down by stages. If you don't have a strong signal to begin with, then you have basically nothing.

Alright, thanks for the advice.

Was using the nady mic set, with only kick, snare, and 2 overheads... all into a fostex vf-16, then transferred to the pc and mixed in soundforge/acid. Will throw some compression onto it and repost.

sounds pretty good....for that
yeah i agree wit a little comp..
any more songs?

Yeah were working on a cd before the end of the week, that's only the intro song... kind of a joke (which you'll get when I post the whole thing, heh). ETA is 2 weeks.

Here's what I hope to be the semi-decent finished copy. It's the whole intro, laugh if you want.

hehe.. This is pretty good! ;)
Sufficiently chaotic!

It all sounds a bit muffled somehow - like a bad mp3 (maybe it is?). You need better definition in the midrage for some more presence, particularly in the guitars (which may also benefit from some more treble / fuzz). There seem to be some minor phaneissues that might explain the lack of presence though.
The bass needs a tighter bottom-end.
Drums sound ok, not stellar, but its a pretty good albeit not conventional sound.

I hope I don't sound too negative - it is rather good, over all :)

i liked it.
I mean yeah, the mix is still in the rough stage, but i liked the concept.
I agree that it needs a little brightness on the guitars.
But it had a nice fullness to the sound. :)
