The link is purevolume.com/inthefields the name of the song is "in the fields" also. it might not be on the artist home page-you have to go under music. anyway, let me know what you think about anything or everything-the recording and production right down to the lyrics. thanks for the feedback!!

First off, let me say this is not my type of music at all. So some of my comments may be off base, but I hate to see a song sit without feedback for to long  If this is for an LP or EP even, I think the amount of overdubs, effects, additional instruments are fine. As a booking agent, I don't think this would fly as a demo. I see a band with 3 guys and hear 5 or six different instruments and my question usually is "yes, but what do they sound like live."

The "louder" parts on the vocals seem to almost contrast with the melower sections too much. It sent me lunging for the volume knob when the first loud part hit... maybe that's what you were going for...

Overall the mix sounds good, though I could use a touch more of the drums to keep the song moving, espcially durring the quieter sections.

I love the cool image you used.
It's kinda like a old Pearl Jam at the beggining and it seems to go into like a Nirvana or Guns & Roses and then back to a melo Pearl Jam. Am I wrong?
Anyway, the vocals are good. The mix seems to be good overall, but everything seems to me like it's muffled. I really like the Drums soloing. I guess it lacks some vibrant sound.
Was it compressed? It just sounds like you threw a blanket on all the the instruments. I'm not sure what you would need to do. Harvey would be the guy to ask.
I listened to your other song Nanaboo march. Again, the musicians and the vocalist got their stuff straight. But the mixture is just wrong. It sounds like a candle just flickering. Sometimes its strong, and then it weakens and back.
Sorry that I can't give you a specific detail to look at.

Thanks for the replies! Nate-thanks for the advice. When I give demos to booking agents I will give them songs that are a little more stripped down-hard to tell what a band really sounds like live with that many overdubs. With the drums... its weird but I just realized that while doing some last minute editing i was switching virtual tracks, and forgot to switch back before bouncing them down, and as a result one of the two snare mics didn't get put into the final mix... was it just the snare or all of the drums that sounded a little quiet to you?

Dracon... thanks... I guess I wasn't thinking pearl jam for the quieter parts, but now that you mention it yeah i can see that... Also, I agree the mix does sound muffled. I guess I hadn't listened to the mp3 as it is on purevolume yet and I was surprised at the way it sounded. The actual recording has a lot more of the higher frequencies, and none of that terrible phasing is there. I am thinking that this is a problem with the stream or the mp3 converter or something... it seems like all the mp3s on purevolume sound a little degraded, but most other bands' mp3s don't sound as bad as ours does.... I used dBpoweramp Music Converter to convert to mp3. Does anyone have a recommendation for a better converter?
Thanks again for the feedback, and as always, more is welcome.

I was thinking more soundgarden-ish. Very Chris Cornell tortured artist sound, especially toward the end.

I would have really ditched a lot of the reverb... sounds very big tin-canny at times. I also would have kept the hi hat riding through those quiet parts, to keep the pace going.

I agree the compression or whatever is really killing a bit of it. Sometimes it's good to push the limits a bit harder.

Overall not bad, but doesn't really feel live at all. A little more air might help.
