Major cool. I wonder what the price is going to be? This Home recording is getting more and more affordable. Compared to the mid '80's (when I started) this is almost unimaginable. And what is really cool, is that with all the demand, competition will keep on making this stuff more and more affordable. Which means, we all win!!!! It also means that people who are not profesionals, people who might otherwise never consider making theur own music are now able to try this, with the hope being that they find that everyone is capable of making music, it doesn't have to be relegated only to the music labels. And this becomes a major win win situation, because with more and more people making music it opens up the very real possibility of genres other than "rock", "rap", "country" etc. will become more a part of the mainstream. (BTW, If you have never heard of Rachid Taha, you need to at least give him a listen, you will be amazed).
Ah well, I digress, I again reiterate, This is MAJOR COOL!

WOW! That looks great. Im already startin to get very annoyed and frustrated with the MR8 due to the time restrictons.
How come BOSS can offer 60 mins of time and Fostex cant?
And it sounds like Boss have actually bothered to put some real eeffects into it,,instead of the nonsense the MR8 boasts.
I LOVE the simplicity and ease of ACTUAL recording,,,but many other things annoy me greatly. Wonder how much huh?
If its around the same price i will be sick,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I've only seen one price on a UK site, and it converted to about $730 US. Dunno if that's the real deal, as I haven't seen much as far as US pricing.

boss

Hmmm,,that sounds pretty good to me.
The Fostex MR8 is going for£289 here at the moment,,grrr,,mine was £299.
Shot,,i couldve got a few beers !

boss

OOoh,,,,wish id waited now!
Hey,,,what am i sayin,,i havent even heard it yet!
Still,,,,,i use Boss effects so it would have been ideal for me ,sound wise i think. We shall see what the masses say of it soon eh?
The wee red box is very frustratin at the moment.
I must get into the pc editing ivibe!

They have to be using data compression to get those kind of recording times off the CF Cards, with some degradation in sound quality. I'm not sure it would be a noticeable improvement over the MR-8.

I really wish some of the magazines like GP, Guitar World, and Acoustic Guitar would do some head-to-head comparison tests. Acoustic Guitar did one with the 4-track machines put out by Tascam, Zoom and Boss, but 4-track is all but obsolete.

Maybe now that the MR-8 has something comparable to compete with, we can look forward to another.

I think you're probably correct with that assumption. This looks like a smaller version of the BR 8.

I saw this in a german store. It had about the same price as the mr-8. The boss br-864 has a programable drum machine which uses
grids similar to computer sequencers. My problem now is whether to buy a tascam 788 with burner and zoom drum machine or to buy the boss br-864 and still have enough money for a computer upgrade.(I already have a plextor burner, cubase vst, soundforge and really good plugins). what would you suggest?

* The above number is the total for all the tracks that are used. If each of the eight r tracks contain an equal amount of data, the length of the resulting song will be approximately 1/8 of the above.

Does that mean the length would be approx 8 minutes?

65 x .125 = 8.125
