I'm buying a new computer soon. I went on Xtechnology.com and came up with this set up. FYI i will use my old CD-ROM's and keyboard/mouse ,that's why i left them blank.

Looks wonderful- other than that I wouldn't touch Vista with a 10 foot pole.

Firewire?

You should see if they'll refund you for Vista if you explain that you don't accept the license agreement. A guy won a suit in the UK because the manufacturer wouldn't give him his refund.

Ditto on Vista. Stick with XP

also, you could probably save a little money by stepping down to a board without SLI support. that's really overkill unless you'll also be playing games on this computer.

perhaps you could use that savings to get PC6400 800 MHz RAM instead of 667?

Can I ask why AMD?
Intel provide much better bang for buck right now.

I'm using an ASUS P5K with a C2D E6600 and it flies.
I'm sure you could find a cheap LGA775 mainboard.
I agree about Vista - IMO it's not finished yet. Vista SP1 is going to be 800Mb!

yeah agreed if you can find a core 2 duo for a good price, go for it, people have a much better time with intels than amds for daw's.

vista has been working fine with me so i would say check it out first before you decide to stay with xp.

good choice on the 2gb of ram, you'll need it.

Thanks for the replies guys!! I changed my set-up a bit.... keep in mind I didn't order it just yet!

Wait, doesn't On Board Video cause problems?? If so I can disable it right?

Be careful about going with XP 64-bit. Make sure that all the hardware and software you'll be using supports it.

why would he be going xp64 if hes only using 2 gigs of ram?

The only point of using xp64 is so that you CAN use more RAM. If I were using BFD and Vienna Orchestra and 4 other super ram intensive VST-i's at the same time, I'd be looking at XP64. Otherwise, it seems like a long walk off a short pier

"hard2hear", i'm actually not gonna build it my self. I'm doing this though Xtechnology.com and they don't have the ones your refering to. What about the 'ASUS Motherboard P5B-VM C2D G965 LGA775 CONROE DDR2 Audio VGA GBL' or 'ASUS Motherboard P5NSLI LGA775 CONROE NVI NF570 SLI DDR2 PCIEX16'

Ive gotta tell you, as crappy as that places "warranty" looks, there is absolutely no reason to buy from them. Their warranty pretty much says that they are not responsible for anything that breaks after you install anything on or in it, and that they only cover the cost of parts. Well, all the parts, at least any decent parts, are covered by manufacturers warranties for a year or longer anyways. Looks like you'd be stuck with both shipping cost and repair labor fees.

If you're not going to get a system built specifically for Pro Audio with a full warranty and tech PLUS audio support to back it up, then you'd be better off specing a system to a computer store local to you. Or finding someone at your local technical school to do it for a few bucks. Warranty on parts is just as good, and at least its local so when it breaks you're not stuck with a $60-100 shipping bill.
