I think he has enough talent to be on radio. He is not so sure, and I know he does not believe me cos I have a tendency to get overexcited, but please listen to :

BETWEEN TWO WORLDS

and kindly critique the mix, his singing, and the overall sellability of the song

I greatly look forward to your responses

The first song is decent. Voice is nice, but I don't like the way the vocal was mixed. Not enough body, a tad too much reverb, and sounds distorted in parts (may just be the gritty quality of his voice or the mp3 stream).

The rest of the mix sounds pretty solid to me. Well played. Even sound. The quality of the "Lo-fi" mp3s on the site was terrible. The broadband ones were better. The other two song clips were just average, in my opinion. Tight sound, but didn't really do much for me otherwise.

As for whether they are "radio-ready" or not, that's a tough call. They sound good, but I am not sure where they fit in, stylistically. Not dark enough for hard rock/metal radio, not edgy and brooding enough for college radio, but, also not shiny enough for mainstream pop/rock radio. This is not a criticism, as I rarely listen to radio much anyway, because most radio sucks. Figuring out what people will respond to is not easy. I would say, he needs to play live as much as possible and build up a good fan base (if he hasn't already).

I do think he has enough talent to be on the radio (and this is coming from someone who dislikes the bands I think he sounds similar to...Nickleback, etc is a good comparison) I will say that "between two worlds" has the best sellability to fit into that genre, his vocals fit this song perfectly. I'm listening on my crappy computer speakers right now (and I'm pretty new to recording) so I can't comment too much on the mix but from here: The mix is good, kick drum sounds good but I don't really feel it, needs more thump. Vocals sound good but they aren't quite fitting in the mix for me but I can't figure out what it is. I think it is a very good mix though. I've heard better and worse mixes on the radio.

Hope that helps!

I don't know if it's the crappy mp3 encoding, but the acoustic guitar sounded brittle, and while he has a decent voice (much better than mine), I don't think it's radio ready yet. But with some fine tuning, maybe (needs to learn control when he is singing softer).

With all the crap on the radio today...anything is possible

Start lookin for investors

Hey dude.

From what heard, and I hope that was an original song, I think that could be a hit single. As for the recording, It was well played but somewhere it lost alot of it's punch. Maybe from the file conversion or maybe from some over compression, bu t I'd like to hear another recording of this song. Experiment with different versions of the same song (recorded-wise).

Great job overall. But then I'm just a homestudio hobbiest who likes to takes his studio around and record his friends.

REVIEW....Take Two!!

Hey again,

I went over the songs again. The first songs Rocks!, other two good for fillers. I think what I was missing was the feel of the drums. I didn't care for the sound of the snare or the cymbals. any chance you could have re-recorded those? It kinda got squashed at the chours, but my biggest difficulty is listening to the drums. Drumming was fine it was just the way they got recorded. Especially the snare and cymbals. Bass sounded ok.

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for the comments. You echoed my thoughts exactly. Between two worlds will have the best shot at any radio airplay. Broby has decided to completely retract the music at a professional studio and try to find a band- he was using borrowed musicians.

Thanks
