punkin said:Exactly...use the pad to attenuate (decrease) the level of signal going to the preamp. Drums would be a perfect example but only if/when the preamp is pushed into clipping.

i know, me neither, then about 2 days ago, i was sitting here contemplating the fact that when i'm using balanced line, i don't need to push the pre as much b/c of the little increase in levels, and the corresponding ratio to the meter on the pre and the mixer, and i was thinking about how it might be less pre sound b/c of that lower setting on it...it's just a theory, but anyway, i decided to try it.Erockrazor said:I never thought of that but that would be a good way to compare the color of a given preamp.
