What Do You Guys Think Of This Mastering Job?

LARRY GUDE: Thanks a lot Larry! Thanks for listening and responding!

HUGH_JAZZ: Um...thanks? Yeah, we were practicing with the band to play this puppy live, and before this was recorded, when our lead guitarist recognized that it shared the same chord progression as "The Joker", so we kind of took that and ran with it, and when it's played live, after the solo, we go in for a chunk of one of their verses...

"Your the cutest thing i ever did see/ I really love your peaches want to shake your tree / Lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time/ ew-eee baby sure show you good time."

...Then we roll directly into the change up. People seem to love it.

when doing the actual recording, we kind of played off of that again. This recording actually wasn't supposed to start with the guitars, it was supposed to start with bass. This song doesn't really sound like the joker with the bass line, but the guy mixing guy messed up and ended up chopping off the bass at the start, so we were kind of stuck with it this way...oh well...

it seems.....impossible......that a piece of recorded audio could be made "better"......it can't be real..........

yet if you are going for a "home recorded" sound I would use the first one. if you want a "pro" sound use the second.

SJONESMUSIC: thanks....that's what i thought...

FALKEN: you come highly recommended by the people around here obviously, but yes. you make a good point, if you want to sound home recorded don't get mastered. if you want to sound "pro" get mastered.

nice song,

I personally dont think it NEEDED mastering. That said, the mastered version is better.

what I am trying to say is, if I had not heard the mastered version, I would not have had any problems listening to the unmastered version.

hmmmm...interesting comment. if nothing else, we wanted it to be boosted to at least sound at a level that some other comercial CDs are at, even if it's on the lower end. I don't think he squashed this too bad at all...
