I've just got one recently and am interested to know how good it is to use as the sole recording devise, and wether i need mic pre amps when recording or not
also is it possible to record two tracks at the same time from the same source?
i.e
using the jack 3 for a mic for vocal to record on both tracks 2 & 3

are there any problems limitations i should know about this machine?

I have the 1880 but I think they are very similar.Yes you can record two tracks at once using the same sourse.Just connect each track to the same input. But be careful on the input mixer section of the source track, make sure that it is panned to the center,if it is panned right or left (the default setting)you will only have audio to one of your two selected tracks.

Also as far as needing pre-amps,the pre-amps on my 1880 are ok but I prefer my Avalon and my ART-tube and even my Audio Buddy pres.If you can afford a good pre-amp you will be much happier. If you can't you can get by.
