So I have some tracks I would like some feedback on. I do know that some of the quality of the tracks are worse than others but I was still learning how to use Adobe Audition. I'm also aware the mix quality is not the best but I mixed all these tracks before I got my monitors. I'm more just looking for crits or comments on the style of the beats. I peeped quite a few of them on your site.

What's your choice of materials? Hardware? Software? Which Hardware or Software do you use?

One thing I like, but at the same time dislike, is that you put them with some really big artists. Most of them wouldn't fit the artist themselves. But, knowing each of the original beats, it is a large step.

Seeing as you like 2Pac, I'd check out "DJ Fatal" he has remixed some of 2Pac's stuff, I, personally, think he has the best remixes ever. I've heard many, and none of them compare.

You have talent, I'm not going to lie. I just have a pet-peeve of using other peoples stuff (such as the lyrics for the beats) It gives them a feel for what you're trying to do with the beat, but at the same time sometimes it's better to just leave your talent empty with no vocals unless they are your own.

I could make a beat and add 2Pac's vocals to it any day, but that doesn't make it a good beat. It makes it good because 2Pac's vocals are on it.

Show me some empty instrumentals, and I can see where you go with things and what your initial ideas are leading to. I want to hear everything of the beat, but with the vocals it's hard.

Thanks for the reply. I use Reason 4 and Adobe Audition 2. I know the beats being mixed with the lyrics is not the best way to do it but I mostly did it because we haven't had a chance to record any local artists yet. I had gotten out of the whole music thing for a couple of years and I just started getting back into it so I need to work on finding some artists to record. We have a bunch more beats with no lyrics but I just got my new monitors and I would like to mix them better before I post them. All the songs you heard were done in the last year and were mixed through headphones. Plus I was trying to learn how to use Adobe and some of the files were not saved in the best quality.

Remixing is a whole other hustle Lapse. Without them, you wouldn't be listening to a lot of the music out there.

As for the actual music. Some complexities & of course instrument quality should be changed, but I see your effort fam!

This I know man, but when I'm looking to judge someone else's work I'd rather hear the instrumental first. Unless, of course, the beat had a new artist on it already. But when I hear 2Pac's vocals on someone that aint Dre's beat I get this feeling that they're trying to be bigger than they are. It's a personal opinion, it aint harsh I'm just sayin'..

If I were to critique the beats, I couldn't, because the vocals cover most of it up. I'd like to hear the beats solo instrumentals. That's all.

I've never done a remix with someone else's vocals because if I can't find the accapelas for it I don't do it, and I am very unsure of how to strip vocals.

Nevertheless, the beats were good, I just didn't like the 2pac vocals over them. That's tryin' to fill some really big shoes and it's hard. Especially when there's 20,000 others trying to remix 2pacs stuff to get hits and sell albums. Like I said though, DJ Fatal is the only one that I've found that has remixed the shit and it was sold really well, also very good.

I see both sides of your arguments. I also usually like to hear beats without the lyrics too. We originally had just beats with no lyrics on the myspace page and had a lot of people saying it would be nice to hear some lyrics with them. Due to the fact that I have 3 kids, work full time, and go to school in the evenings, I didn't have any time to find anyone to lay some vocals down so I figured I would use some acapella tracks. I by no means used them thinking that I am anywhere close to as talented as the people who originally did the beats. As far as the track by Twista he released the acapellas on his myspace page for people to use for use for making their own beats and submit to him as a contest. And the one track by G-13 was actually done through email. I sent him the beat and he put the vocals to it. I wasn't too happy with the way it turned out because it sounds like he recorded it in a big bedroom standing way to far away from the mic but I did like his lyrics and his presentation. I plan to set aside some time to record some local artists soon. Thanks for the crits too. I am still trying to work on some new beats so I will post them soon.
