Why Does My Music Sound Different
on the CD?

If a song on a CD you make sounds drastically different than
it does when played on the VS-1680, remember that mixer
settings such as fader level, effects, and EQ do not translate
to the CD. Use the following procedure to listen to your song
as it will be recorded to the CD

is it saying that when I make pannning and effects changes that when I burn them to a CD that it wont be stereo? it will be mono?

what do they mean by this, it cant be true?

If you are burning the CD internally with Roland CD-RW burner, you must bounce all of your tracks to a stereo pair within the 1680. If you have the latest OS, I believe they even set aside virtual tracks as the "Mastering Room'" or something like that. Ok. Now, given that you have have bounced your tracks down to a stereo pair, and you then try to add FX, EQ, mess with the panning, etc., those changes on the stereo pair will not be represented on the audio of the CD you just burned. OTOH, if you mixdown to an external standalone CD-RW, you should, theoretically, hear what you are hearing on the playback of the 1680.

I have a 2480, after recording the stereo tracks in the Mastering room, I'm not able to add any eq/comp etc either. All that has to be done in the Mastering room before recording the stereo tracks. I think that's what the manual is saying. You would have to use some other mastering device to add stuff after the fact.
I've played around with trying to add stuff while the mastering tracks are being recorded. It dosen't work. Although you can toggle effects on and off while recording the stereo tracks. I do it alot with the vocal tracks. Have a clean dry verse, and add delay or verb during the chorus.

I only have the VS840, so I can't help with the technical stuff, but boy, that sure looks like the meaning was lost somewhere in the translation from Japanese to Japanglish, just like it seems to be on the "manuals" for every piece of Roland gear I've ever seen. Roland = great gear, worst manuals in the world!
