What do i need......

Hi,

I'm new to the whole 'recording' stuff and i have no idea what i'm doing but i'm gettin to it anyway...

What do i need for recording my songs, i sing & play Guitar & Piano/keyboard...my comp is a mic & has 'GarageBand' on it, But i what more so if you can tell me what to get or what you like that be great

Depends on what exactly you're doing...if you plan on only recording one track at a time, you could get by with just a mic and preamp to begin with.

If you want to do more than one track at a time, say 2-4, you would probably be better of with a mixer.

Also make sure you have a decent sound card in your computer. M-Audio makes several good ones, the 24/96, and Delta 1010. There's also one called the EMU 1212M which I heard is really good.

So, recording just one track at a time would be like this:

Guitar -> Microphone -> Preamp -> Soundcard -> GarageBand

Also look into getting a decent microphone if you don't have one already, don't use one of those PC mics. You will probably need at least 2, one for guitar/vocals, and another for keyboard/piano, unless it's an electric piano then you could record it direct without a microphone.
