This is your usual "the more I know, the more I'm confused" post. I do have some experience w/ recording so all of this is not to confusing. But the manufatures are so vauge or don't give enough info so I rely groups such as this one.

My setup: Dell P3 1Ghz, 256 SDRAM at 133 mhz, Windows ME & a 40 gig hard drive.

I surf, play games & audio...that's it.

The Boss BR-8 studio I'm using does not fit the bill. Decent sound but don't need all the features...money wasted.

My recording process is pretty simple. I overdub/layer over a favorite song from a CD. Two tracks for the song & 4 maybe 6 tracks (stereo) for guitar. During the mix down stereo chorusing & panning are very important (each track should stick out but blend). I've read the Lexicon2 card has duel stereo, cascade, etc. on a daughter board...sounds good.

Question:Can a virtual mixer operate like a physical mixer? Can 2 or more perimeters be adjusted quickly & w/ out excessive 'mousing' around?

I would like: 24-bit/96khz sound card, an out board mixer if a virtual can't operate like a real one during mix down, software that would fit my simple needs but able to expand & anything else that would be beneficial.

My rig is a Boss GT-3 pedal board processor. 1/4'' left & right outputs & MIDI in & out.

The budget is $700.00

I just want a great sound. Tired of pissing away money & being taken advantage of w/ all the advertising "hype"....i must really love this hobby.
