Fancy Rock N' Roll
:) Hi, can anyone help me ?
I got Intel PII 300MMX,
1st K6110 Mother board,
256MB RAM,
20 GB HD 5400 RPM
SB16 :( old sound card,
I'm using CPA 9.03.
I'm sure to upgrade my sond card... But since I decided to buy the best one, I think I'm gonna wait till my bucks much enough to buy some. Now, I just have to "enjoying" my old one, which generates huge of noisy background when I record anything A/D through it's line in. All I need is the right DirectX plug in to reducting the noise. I did use the one Cool Edit Pro featurs. I think it's the best till now. But, I'm looking if there's many more Plug in's I could use. Any body knows what are they ? Please tell me. For information, I think the noise I got is "Hiss", around -60db. Thank's !!!

The noise reduction plug ins from SoundForge 5 are pretty cool.

Nope, I didn't use mixer / preamp at all. I know I should, which one is better for used in small home project, I'm looking for 8-12 chanel small device, betwen Behringer & Sound craft /spirit folio?
I only hook my keyboard Korg N364, Sound Module Korg O5R/W, Line out from Sound card, Mic Shure SM58 Beta, Zoom guitar MFX.
I need some info, I plan to buy some this month. Thanks...

Pre amp

James,

Yes you NEED to use a pre amp...
All the boards you mentioned are great...
Mackie makes a 1202 thats fairly cheap...

Thanks Gidman...
Yes, I will look for Mackie 1202 now. Thank God, it's available in my country. You know, many good stuff in magazine aren't available in Indonesia. BTW, if I use it, does that mean I don't have to use preamp no more ? My mic is Shure SM58 Beta. I use it to record vocals. Anybody know what mic is good to record strumed accoustic guitar direct ? Thanks lot...

PS. Anybody who knows ANYTHING about "Rock N' Roll and Indonesia" can share their knowledge with me...

pre amp

James,
What pre amp do you use? If you have a good one, there is no any reason to buy a mixer.
I could imagin that buying equipment in Indonesia would not be easy or cheap and the imported selection would be limited.

Gidman

Hi James,

The Noise Reduction plug-in from Sonic Foundry (www.sonicfoundry.com) is quite good, but it's not cheap. Kind of expensive unless you're planning to get a lot of use out of it.

Best,
Scott

Hey, I never though it would be this fun...
I try as I can many product you guys offer, and I found many incredible things I never though before... thanks...
To remember, I only use for small home studio, doing my own stuff & my Rock' N Roll band's demo. Not for pro, just beginer.
But as long as my experience, I think it's better to reducing the noise straight from the core!!! that means if I use better mic, preamp, and sound card, it helps alot better eliminate noise than any plug in's do. Try to adjust the mic distance, cabling & wiring (thanks for EM magazine January2001 edition), eliminate hiss & noise from electronic/electric stuff, etc. It sounds hard work, but the time I hear the sound, I hear the clearer, brighter, and better result. Thanks... anyone... keep suport home recording!!!
