Hi all,

I was wondering....I've got myself some wurly and rhodes samples, so what do I run it through for live use? A normal keyboard amp? A guitar amp? What do those that own these actual keyboards do? I know that maybe a guitar amp wont be suitable becos it's more midrangish and cannot do justice to all the notes on the keyboard.

Also what did pple like Ray Manzarek use for his combo organ, rhodes when playing live?

Thanks!

Well...The ultimate rhodes sound came from the Suitcase model rhodes, which sat on its own 80 watt solid state amp(for the MK 1, later it was upped to 100 IIRC), with a 4 12 speaker cabinet. The cabinet has 2 12's facing forward, and 2 12's facing back towards the player.

If you are talking samples, I would run them direct throught the PA, or through a good solid state amp, being the rhodes sound was probably sampled off a suicase, and has any color the cab would have added built in.

The cabinets I run for my keyboard rig are the Electrovoice Stage Keyboard system. THese are really big cabs, each having an 18, a 6 inch vented midrange, and a compression driven horn. This covers the whole range pretty well.

If you cant find one of these(and you cant...I own the only two I ever managed to find), the motion sound KBR-3D is the way to go. It has a rotary speak, for leslie, and normal chanels for just regular keyboard amplification. http://www.motion-sound.com

Given more generic choices, I would go with a solid state bass amp.

How abt running the lot thru a Leslie? Will that be effective?

Leslie's are great. They are used more for organ than rhodes type sounds but there arent really any rules. Hell, hook up a wah wah and a distortion inline to the leslie and go nuts!

Leslies sound great on rhodes, but the Motionsound does leslie almost as good as leslie, and its much easier to deal with.. Mind you, I wouldnt mind having a real one, but my motionsound r3-147 comes pre-miced..
