If you record a beat in stereo instead of separate tracks what setting what is the db level on the beat and what are the db settings for the vocals cause some how i always have the vocals to loud or the beat to loud.. I want the beat to wrap the vocals to give it that professional sound.. Wat are the db settings...???

Also when mastering the final mix what is a good level on expanding the stereo image cause I am having major problems with the jent...

Where are good presets that you can download for Waves Gold Bundle....

Well... the new standard seems to be to peg your meters almost immediately to the right (ie, 0dbFS), then make sure they stay there -- if they dip below that at all, that annoying thing called dynamic range gets in the way. You can acheive this ideal by really abusing and misusing a compressor or other Finalizer-type gear or plug-in.

In the old days of course, we actually thought that musical dynamics were desirable and avoided compressor abuse as a matter of course. And we were actually able to listen to music for more than 5 minutes without getting ear fatigue. Good thing we know better now.

:D :D

Ok... seriously... most people will try to get an AVERAGE level of 0VU on a VU meter, but to really answer your question, you have to find out what the gain structure is within your own rig and then set the meters appropriately, leaving yourself some headroom to work with.

Play back a commercial CD thru your gear and try to match the levels, but keep in mind that if it is a current CD - it is likely that the levels have been pushed WAY too far up, and you should not try to get that extreme if you want to retain any sense of musicality.

I know that

The thing is when mixing the song down what are the volume settings to the Vocals.. And to a stereo beat,,,,,,, to make it all blend in a little better... Bringing in some stuff from a four track..,

There's no way to really answer that except... "it depends!"

There's no set level, it's completely dependent on the levels of your other tracks relative to each other. There's no "standard level".

But there are some guidelines... if you start your mix with the kick and bass hitting around -5 VU you can build up from there and usually get your overall mix level in the ballpark.

It is hard for me to mix the beat and then try to get the vocals to fit in. Sometimes it works but most times it will sound like the vocals are sitting too high or too low. I think the best way is to mix everything together. I like to start by roughly leveling everything out. Then I break the composition down to just the drums and focus on those. After that I drop the lead and backing vocals in and mix those in to the best of my ability. Everything else after that I mix in to commpliment the vocals.

When I'm just mixing the music without the vocals I tend not to leave room for them in the mix, so when I force them in it doesn't turn out very well. Mabey this is what your experiencing.

Should the Vocals all be at the same level as the beat

Should they be on that same level for instance I have the vocals on 12db and The beat on 14db...I use Sonar... The mix sound ok but it's still not getting wrapped by the beat.... I am trying to get a great mix... And have the vocals all on that same level how do I go by doing that...I know it's hard but there is least a start on what level the beat is and the vocals.. Let me remind yall I am transferring a beat from four track... Can't separate the tracks...And I also keep all the music under red,..I keep it in the green

I guess

what do the monitor or what do I do to get all the vocals on the same volume
