What cords do I buy to hook mixer to soundcard?

Vox,

I'm looking into that with maybe the Alesis studio 32, or the Behringer MX3242X and the Aark 24 (eventually two). I'd probably use Logic Audio Platinum. How does the mixdown work on that kind of set up? I've never played around with any of this stuff (all I have is a four track and pro tools free). I really don't know much about how this setup would work. Thanks

yo... just curious..

Did you go to radioshack and ask for a 2xTRS to 1/8" stereo cord?? (which, IMO, would absolutely not work)... and if so.. did they sell you one? and if so.. did it work? And if so, did it preserve stereo seperation?

Or did you do the right thing and get a 2xTS to 1/8"stereo cord..?

Im just curious if thhey MAKE that first cord.. cuz I cant visualize how to wire it right now...

xoox

The confusion arises from the fact that a computer can do so many different things in these rigs, in the old days you had a tape machine with 8,16 or 24 inputs and the same number of outs, you hooked up the ins to the board's sends and the outs to the channel 'tape ins' and did all your mixing on the board with your FX coming from a seperate rack also patched to the board.
Nowadays the PC can be used as just a 'tape machine' or it can be a complete studio, with board, FX, and everything else built in.
The hookup that you need to use will basically depend on what equipment you have and how you plan to mix, the one that I described above will work for most applications, but wont always be necessary.

Just to clarify The 'Channel Tape Ins' are NOT the same as the 'Channel Line Ins'. The Line ins are meant for inputting line level signals to the channel, the mic ins are to input mic level signals. The 'Channel Tape Ins' however are only present on 'Studio' boards', a lot of smaller boards dont have them, they are specifically for connecting the outputs from your multitrack deck. Boards that have them actually have a 'split' design with a seperate rotary fader for the tape return on every channel, as well as a 'flip' switch to let you assign the tape return to the main sliding fader, and an eq split that will let you use some of the channel eq on the tape return.

Camn, I went to the spec sheet and it showed the main as having TRS plugs, then I went to a larger picture of it and it showed left and right plugs.....it didnt exactly sound right to me, but I assumed.....I could be wrong, as Ive been before, I was just going by the information from their spec sheets....sorry if I offended u....
