what computer?

hey, i have no clue in hell when it comes to computers, but i want to get a good one for recording at home. help me!

i want a computer that will be able to run reason and cubase along with things like photoshop and wavelab and whatever the hell else comes my way, i have an mbox and an akai 16 track hard disk jobby.

whats my best bet? shud i build one myself or just go out and buy a standard desktop? ive no idea about ram..processers..hard disks..etc..etc and... im on a bit of a budget..

all comments will be greatly appreciated
 
A custom build is the best option IMO.
However, you need to be able to maintain it smartly (i.e. don't install Bonzai buddy or Comet Cursor - lol) and troubleshoot hardware.

If you have a friend who is good at this stuff then it might be OK.
Otherwise you may have to pay the extra outlay for a Mac, as from my recent experience with Dell et al, pre-built PCs are at their lowest ebb for quite some time...
