I have a Presonus firepod. I heard great things. I ordered one online. Tried to set it up to my Powerbook G4 laptop and of course I have MacOS X 10.4.2 when you need 10.3.5(or later) and you need 800mhz and I only 400mhz. Greeeeeeeaaat right. So now I’m sitting here with a G4 and a Firepod and nothing to record on.

So I’m looking to sell my G4 laptop and my old amp(1967 fender bassman blackface head , if anyone’s interested).

But when I do sell it .. and get enough money to buy a new computer, which laptop would fit well ?

I don’t need any other programs or what not on this computer. Just to run the Cubase LE and then Firepod and maybe some software instruments. It doesn’t matter Mac or PC. I know the PC layout much better then the Mac. I don’t have much money for this computer. So what would be my best option?

Thanks in advanced
J

I'm starting to feel like a company shill, but: I have a gateway 7510gx, and think for the price, you cannot beat the specs or the quality of this laptop... they selll them at bestbuy... highly recommended, and I use a firepod with it...

only catch, and apparently this happens a lot, is turn off your integrated wifi when recording, and you'll get about a billion times better performance.

.. sorry I forgot to add a huge problem.. I only have $1000

That is a biggie.

The 7510gx can be had for about 1300.00, so if you're selling your g4/amp, you might be able to get close. I wouldn't be comfortable telling you to grab anything with less than a gig of ram, and 2ghz p4 or better, but I think you can squeeze a machine into that bracket for the money.

rockishell, did you actually try to install the Firepod on your computer & the install failed, or did you read the requirements & determined that your computer wasn't fast enough and did not try an install?

I'm from the PC world, not Mac, so I'm not sure how hardware installs on Macs, but you never know, your G4 might work with it anyway.

all though not the BEST computers for recording, you can actually get some quite decent laptops in the 700 dollar range these days. i've seen dells, off brands like e-machines, gateways and the like in walmart and bestbuy for around 700 dollars with 40-80 gb hardrive, 1.5+ ghz pentium m's and 512 ram. not TOP of the line, but quite decent and good enough for recording.

so it has to be a laptop then? ok i would see if i could go and get a floor model laptop at a store or something or better yet watch ebay! for something used and if you can check out some stores that carry used laptops and see if they have something that is high enough pawer to work for you... while some like the intel chipset i think AMD is nicer to go with but then also i am running linux any more :) how much do you want for the G4?
