Hi Guys, I wasn't exactly sure where to ask this question, and since I use CDR's for stereo mixes..I thought this made a god place to ask.

What kind of CDR's are you guys using?

The reason I'm asking, is I've seen some "generic"/House Brand CDR's online for as little as 400 for $60 bucks.

I've been buying either Maxells of Sony's, but I want some "silver on silver" types.

Thanks,
Tim

I bought a bunch of cheap ones twice, which shows you what a cheapskate I am, as both itmes I threw them away, 1 in 3 was faulty
Stick to misterqcue's advise, he's right

xpensive though.........

no problems with the bulk memorex discs i bought ....YET!!!!

I have a batch of TDK's (blue ones, but we needn't get into that again) that are higly susceptible to failure at write speeds above 2x. This is especially true if I'm writing to cdr from a source cd rather than HD. 3 coasters yesterday. Good thing I got em for $.40 a piece.

70 cents???

wow....

ive been paying 6.00 for a 3 pack

what a foooool i have been

i hang my head in shame

i guess i need to quit buying them at the grocery store

Price Club sells them in cylindrical spindles - 100 discs for $70.00cdn....

No jewel box at that price though....

Thanks guys!

I was just wondering-because I hadn't used any "offbrands", and didn't know if there was a real difference.
I picked up a spindle of 30 Memorex Cd's (16X 80 Minutes) for $18 today.
Has anybody used "ZIO" brand? I'v seen them at several places, and they are supposedly "guaranteed" to be good, and they are 100 for $18.00. I'm going to get some, and just keep track of the failure rate.

I'm putting in my order this week for 8 Channels of Compression, and 4 channels of Gate.

I still need to get a "vocal" mic though-I'm undecided on that one....I'll probably grab an NT-1...I've just been using an ATM 811 Condenser....It's okay, but I'd like to have a Large Diaprhagm mic for that.

ZIO????

..."Zio" in Italian means "Uncle"..........

A very strange name for a CD-R... mind you "verbatim" is just as strange!

mmm, I always thought "spoon" was a very weird word. ever since I was little sjoko

Taiyo Yuden. How's that for a weird name? Great CDRs (16x certified) for $.69 with the case.
Data integrity is guaranteed to 100 years! Wow! Cat brains playing in the 22nd century!
Actually- it seems highly unlikely that the CD player will still exist by then.

don't be so cheap

is saving a few cents worth the time you waste making costers, nope. if u got a cd-rw you should buy those, trust me when u burn 5-16 cd's a day like i do you'll know why, i can't recommend any one brand over another except to always look for the backing to be silver or gold, gold is the best then silver for reflectivity, unless you are in a bind don't buy cd's with blue or green backs, they suck. every time i buy a new brand of cd i break one in half to peel off the silver coating to see how good the factory consistenciy of the dye layer is, it should be even with no washout ( when u look at the cd it should be a mirror not blury at all). i can recommend that u NOT buy the following, prime prehiprials cd-r's they are some of the worst shit i have ever seen, got stuck in a jam and bought a hundred pack, about 1 in 3 burns junk and i know what i'm doing!
anyways the point is u get what u pay for, so unless u don't care that much or need some disks to shoot skeet with pay the extra .50 cents!

In my day job I do IT tech support. We have 6 guys in our department with CDR drives burning all data CDs constantly. We buy them frequently in boxes of 200. Our vendor will give us whatever name brand he has cheapest at that time. So in the past 8 months we have had TDK, Maxcell, Verbatum, Sony, and others I cannot recall.

The only trend I can identify is that a lot of CDR defects seem to be linked to manufacturing "lots". For example we had no problem with Maxcell CDs for a long time. Then we recieved a box of 200 that were quite bad, slagged maybe 1 in 4. Interestingly my 6x burner refused to even write them faster than 4x - software would't even give me that as an option. Next shipment, no problems.

Generally if I have a choice I pick TDK, because I have seen the least slags with them. But probably any name brand is about the same.

TDK

ive burned 3 TDK audio cds in my existence. 2 of those 3 were like rice crispies when i listen to them. snap crackle pop. i dunno why. i know this went down in another thread once. i hvae some memorex that seem to work well, no coasters. mitsubishis that dont coast either. sony' alwys work as well... i think there is a common trend here. oh yea yamaha ones i got. its really hard to find bulk packs of name brands in jewel cases that dont cost an arm and a leg.

I bought 2 packs of CompUSA unbranded. They go for like $20 - $30 for 100 w/o cases. The reason I bought these is because I'm doing a project where I'm printing tons of CD's and distributing them free in windowed sleeves.

As long as you label these CD's (w/ adhesive labels) they are great. If you don't label them, the reflective silver layer may flake off after several uses.

I'm using a Sony Spressa 12X8X32 burner, and have burned over 100 disks with no coasters at 12X. If you need a CHEAP solution for mass-distribution, I'd go with these discs - the price can not be beat.
