Hi all,
I've read a bunch of stuff on this bbs about different sound cards and different advantages and disadvantages, but I still could use some direct advice. I'm setting up a computer to act primarily as a digital multitrack. It's going to be a PII 400 with 192 mg of ram, scsi CDR, 23 gigs Hd, etc...
I'm going to get a line6 pod for direct recording of guitar and bass (can I use the pod for bass?) and an SM57 for vocals and acoustic instrument mics.
The only piece left is the soundcard. I was originally set on the Guillemot Isis since it had 8 inputs, and was under 300, but after reading the posts, I'm unsure. I essentially want to use the studio for:
a. recording my own music to CD
b. occasionally being able to record live music in the basement through mics and put that to CD.
I can spend... well, I'd like to keep it under or around 500 for the sound card, but if there's a big jump between 300 and 600 dollar cards, I'd rather spend a little more and get a quality card then save the money and have to upgrade in 6 months.
advice?
