Hi, I'm pretty new to this home recording stuff. I've been lurking around the board for a while now so I've picked up a lot of info from just reading the posts. I have an old P200MMX that I'd like to use to record some stuff with. I am running Win98lite and N-track and it runs suprisingly well. I was wondering if I got a 7200 rpm drive would it help? I know that in most situations it would but, due to the age of my computer will the drive operate to its fullest potential so to speak? Or would more ram help, I've got 64MB in that machine. I realize I'm not gonna end up with a stellar machine here, but I just want something that can get me going and hold me over until I buy a better system. What would you guys do in this situation?

Another question I had is about dual monitors. I've got two 15" monitors to use with this system I'm not sure how to hook them up. I 'd like to use two video cards because I've already got one in that machine and I'd like to have to buy a cheaper second than a more expensive card that will run dual monitors. TO save costs. What are some suggestions for a second card, that will work with another video card at the same time?

Thanks for helping a new guy out.

Adding a second video card will slow the machine down even more. Not too discourage you, but looking at what you've got, if you start seriously upgrading this box (hard drive, memory, etc.) you'll still be limited by older buss speeds and mother board limitations that you just can't change. I'd start stashing the money now instead of wasting it on upgrades and just get some newer, faster technology if that's what you want. In the mean time, just use it the way it is...Just my 2 cents. Good luck which ever way you go.
