What BASS sounds do you use

I have a Roland SC-55 sound module, and a BOSS DR670 drum/bass machine. I record on a BOSS BR1600CD, which ALSO has sucky bass sounds (IMHO). I have a lot of trouble getting what I consider good bass sounds from them, especially the SC-55....Unless I"m doing something wrong....they TOTALLY suck. I have been using the DR for BASS and I am 'ok' with it, but they just don't sound 'real' enuf for me. Anybody have any great BASS sound ideas (other than playing a real one! ; - ) )

Thanks,
Steve

Korg N-series. Basses are the Forte of the N's IMHO. For real bass sounds I play a real bass (Just can't be beat), but for more extreme basses, I'll go to my N364 or N264 or a Korg Poly-61 (The Poly-61 basses REALLY thump).

I use a Roland MBD-1 - which is a dedicated bass/drum module (more of a bass module than a drums module). A ton of fairly realistic bass sounds with plenty of performance touch dynamics (you can play a bass line and get a slap sound only on the notes you want). This module also has plenty of sub-bass & synth bass sounds if needed and some very decent accoustic bass sounds.

I also own a Fender Jazz bass and an Ibenez GRS200 for "real" bass parts - but I use the module more because of the MIDI capabilities.

I'll often have a standard bass line (like a simulated Fender Jazz bass), and then have a sub-bass part (often only on the 1) to carry the low end if the bass part gets to "busy".
