Looking at getting a new mic to mic guitar cabs with, i have tried the Standard SM57 and it was okay, tried the Sm58 with the shield off it and it sounded just slightly darker then the Sm57 but not what i was looking for. now im going to try the Beta 57A (i think) what is your opinion on the Beta 57A, should i try it yes or no?

The Beta 57 is brighter, hotter output, tighter pattern than the SM57.

I find the SM57 more agreeable. Mic placement can do a lot to change basic tone but I find the Beta sort of harsh most of the time. To my ears anyway.

YMMV.

For the same price you can get a CAD m179. In the used market look for a Shure sm59, EV 308, or a Beyer m201. Try moving the beta towards the outer third of the speaker or even try mic'ing the back of the cab.

This is my opinion as well.

Don't stop searching for the right microphone, Kyle ... till you have tried a ribbon microphone.
