What are the best monitors for around $125?

assuming you are talking $125 for a pair, I would say, keep a keen eye on the used market...Ebay??

or...maybe some decent hifi speakers to at least get you going. Not really recommended, but maybe use your stereo amp and speakers to start you off.....or your computer speakers if you have to. If you could save up to at least $300, you'd be in a much better position to get some more *accurate* speakers geared especially for monitoring. But, if you can record on your stereo/computer, and it sounds good on a lot of other systems too...(not too bassy...tinny, etc), you'll be in decent shape to start off.
 
Haha, actually I meant for 125 total. These are beginning speakers, cause I really need something right away to use. So yeah, any ideas on speakers, monitors or not, that would be decent for me to use until I can save up a good 300-500 bucks for real ones?

For $40 more you can get a pair of Tannoy Proto-J's.
Excelllent reference monitors!
 
Sammy's are ALWAYS having month-end clearance sales where the J's are reduced some $25-30!
I bought a pair brand new from there a coupla' months ago from them and spent a total of $160.00 !
 
Look at you local pawn broker.

I just picked up a pair of Yamaha NS10s at a local pawn shop for only 75.00 and they were perfect not even a scratch. The cool thing about it too was I traded my alesis monitor ones for a yamaha synth module.
 
I think my ProtoJ's were $175.....you wont get better for that price.....if you can get a Q deal, even better.....
 
Why don't you just get a really decent pair of headphones? Aren't the Sony CD-series a good choice for monitoring? Or is this a really bad idea? Guys?

For the short term you might try your local costco if you have one and for $49 they have Advent Calypso (sp?) indoor/outdoor speakers that sound very good and don't have the typical stereo speaker coloring. You even get wall mounts.
