What are the best microphone cables i can buy for recording vocals?

I have an SM58 with a connection at the back like this:

And a crappy Behringer Ultra Gain Preamp with inputs and outputs like this:

Could you suggest the best cables/semi best cables to connect my mic into the preamp and the preamp to the line in blue colored input of my computer? like this (not my pc!) http://gdrbughy.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/line_in.jpg

Just simple XLR cable will do.
I like a cable that goes by the name of *road hog* a very good yet wallet friendly XLR cable ----just google the name you'll find it. :pMake It So:p

However, it's not as daft a question as it seems. I remember when some of the mic cables I used to use were really noisy. If you touched them, they'd make a 'boof' sound on a recording. It used to be so annoying. But the ones I have now are quiet so it's valid to ask what the best kind of cables are. The OP isn't asking "What should I put in the mic to connect it to the preamp ?" which would be truly facepalmworthy !

Anything made by monster cable, I think a 10 foot copper lined XLR cable is like $250.00, somewhere around that area.....:rolleyes:

In my opinion a cable is a cable. There are things you look for like the thickness and sturdiness of the wire, how well the connection is at both ends... You can even make your own which is much cheaper and you can make custom lengths.

These companies like Monster prey on people that think expensive is better. Monster cables have been tested along with other cables and the difference was minute, not even worth the money you pay for the cable, and their cable replacement is a joke, a friend of mine bought one and went to take it back when it went bad and he had to pay for the shipping to and from Monster which came out to be like $10.00, and it took them 3 weeks to get him another cable.

For the connection to the computer I would not use the "line in", use the USB from the preamp(I think that's what that is, next to the power input?) to the USB of your computer.

Wishful thinking there :p No USB on that preamp... looking at a picture from another angle I think its a strain-relief clip for the power cable.

At this point, the cable is not the weakest link in the chain. Hence the face palms. Just get something sturdy and don't pay more that $20. No, nix that. Don't pay more than $10. You can buy perfectly good XLR cables on ebay for $5 apiece. You don't need braided shield star quad wire for your setup.

Admittedly I haven't bought one for a very long time, but since when did 58s have on/off switches?
 
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "crappy behringer preamp". Whatever cable you pick, your signal chain is only as good as the weakest link, which from experience with these things, I'd have to say is your preamp. As far as cables go, I'd have to say that Monster cables are one of the best. You can actually hear the difference depending on what you are doing. But if your preamps are so incredibly noisy, you are never going to hear the good stuff through the bad. My advice is invest in a better preamp, then look closer at your cables.
