Here are some songs that impressed me or re-impressed me recently:

James McMurtry “We Can’t Make It Here” & “God Bless America”
Randy Newman, “Political Science” & “Guilty”
Tom Waits, “Down There by the Train”
Johnny Cash, “Redemption”
John Lennon, “Working Class Hero”
Paul Simon, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”
John Hiatt, “Thirty Years of Tears” & “Back of My Mind”
Nick Cave, “The Mercy Seat.”
Cowboy Junkies (Michael Timmins?), “This Street, That Man, This Life”

OK. Now its your turn. :D

OK, without giving it too much thought...

"All that you have is your soul" - Tracy Chapman
"May you never" - John Martyn
"Lovers cross" - Jim Croce
"Picture in a Frame" Tom Waits
"Reasons to be cheerful" Ian Dury
"Tangled up in blue" - Dylan
"In my Life" - Lennon/McCartney
"Waterloo Sunset" - Ray Davies
"Try a little tenderness" - Michael Buble
"Handbags and Gladrags" - Mike D'Abo
"No woman, no cry" - Bob Marley
"Mad dogs and Englishmen" - Noel Coward
"Heroes" - David Bowie
"Proud" - Heather Small (even though it is a corporate ever-present these days)

There you go ... :)

Though, if I thought harder, I a sure there would be more - even by the same people.

I don't know why...and don't fucking laugh at me hahaha. Phil Collins - In the air tonight ... just listen to the song, leave all the preconceptions at the door, and it's really a GREAT song...amazing, and powerful, with very powerful melodies, instrumentation, and arrangement.

the Sisters of Mercy are amazing at writing unbeleivable songs too, whether you like gothic music or not... holy shit.

Bob Dylan - Boots of Spanish Leather - for the lyrics
Bob Dylan - Girl of the North Country - for the lyrics and finger picking
