What am I missing?

hello,

Even when I mute my "analog in" or take the faders to zero in my soundcards mixer, I'm still hearing my input from guitar/whatever. This is very frustrating since it would seem that the signal I'm monitoring should be the same as the signal that is being recorded. The only way to adjust the volume of the input (I'm hearing) is to adjust the volume of my headphone amp which brings everything else down as well. What am I missing?

The only control I have with the input level is with the preamp gain or to deselect "monitor" in the "analog out" in my soundcard mixer which kills the signal. My onboard sound has been disabled supposedly but I'm now very confused about it.

Why is my soundcard/mixer not in control of the audio?

Thanks,
Rusty K

Not enough info

Which mixer do you have and how is it hooked to what card?
No seriously, what interface do you use?

jake,

I have a LynxOne 24bit card and the mixer I'm refering to is the LynxOne mixer window. I'm straight in from my Grace 101 preamp or a direct box or both.
