What am i doing wrong ?

If you have a Sound Blaster Live, you probably are recording "What You Hear." Go to the Windows mixer and make sure that only the audio in (L, R, or stereo) is selected as a recording source. If you have another card, it's probably something similar.

Ehh ...there is no choice for recording source i my windows mixer (or have i missed something ?). I'm using a sb16 with windows 2000 but the same thing happened on my other machine with NT and SB 128. The only thing i could do was disabling the audio controls
for midi but that didn't help

Even if i dont record anything (mic not plugged in) all the midichannels mix down to the audiotrack when i arm the track and hit record !!!!!

Any more ideas.

Try this,

Try to record audio the way you have it set up, While recording, make the computer make a sound, play a wave or a cd or something. If that records also, you definately have a recording source like "what you hear" somewhere in your soundcards driver. your job, find it. Check in the control panel.

it's your SB16 sound card - try going to audio option and either switch to mono or disable simutaneous record/playback - it's one of them I can't remember but I'm sure it's one of them
 
Whenever i try to record an audio track the midi channels "leaks" over to the audio track . I've been reading the manual and gone thru all the tutorials and read all the faqs i've found without a solution to the problem. Is there a menu option somewhere or something that i have missed
Please HELP !!!! I'm desperate !

Thanks for all the input guys .. i think you set me off in the right direction. My default settings for the sb16 are probably record "what U hear" and i need to switch it to mic or line-in. Under win2000 i haven't found a way to alter the settings (using native win2k mixer/drivers). Win2k drivers from creative (with the appropriate mixer) for sb16 should according to their website be available in May ( 2001 or :( ).

Basically i'm f...ed :-(

Or ... does anybody out there know how to fix this directly thru the registry or something ???

Ahhh ... fixed it ... i just deleted the soundcard from the system and windows installed it's drivers again ... Now im able to mute everything except mic-iput in recording options. Still beats me what happened to my mixer in the first place ?????

I have exactly the same problem with PA9, Win98 and SB64AWE. Would you mind letting me know where the record options are?

Hi Jen,

Double-click the little yellow speaker icon at the bottom of your screen in Windows. This will open the Windows Mixer. In the Windows Mixer, select Options>Properties. Then select the Recording option, and click OK. That should bring up the recording controls for your sound card.
