 I bought a 644 from a porn shop with out the power supply lead, and the mongrels didn't tell me how hard it would be to track one down. Anyway after a few phone calls and 6 months of anticipation I finally had one shipped in rom over-seas. I thought it would be relativly easy to start recording, but i finally realised that I was born with a technological dissability :( . I was hoping that someone may be able point me in the right direction for a manual or give me a few basic pointers to get started. any help would be appreciated and I would be forever in your debt. :o :)

The 644 is a bit more complicated than other 4-track Portastudios,...

but in the turnaround, it's way more capable than most, too.

You'd be best off to try to find the manual. The channel/track assign matrix is set by using a few buttons & the LCD screen. It's a bit intimidating for the new user.

BTW, where did you get the 644 power module from? Was it from a private sale or a music dealer? The 644 power supply module is one of the hardest to find parts, ever. I've seen many 644's sold without the required power module, & yet there was no mention of it in the auction. The 644 power module is not your standard OTC wall wart....

Back on topic,... the assign matrix/routing may be discovered by T & E, but having the manual is a real good idea, and will shorten the learning curve tremendously. Tascam Parts (USA) should still have the 644 manual for sale, @ (323)727-4840.

Oops! wouldn't it be great if porn shops did sell music gear. I wouldn,t leave the shop!!! :D. I got the power supply from a place called the 'electric factory' in Melbourne, Aus. They deal with TASCAM products but had to import it from the U.K.. Thanks for the info Dave, I'm going to look right into it, with a bit o' luck I'll be on my way to start recording :D and have more stories to tell and problems to solve, but hey, isn't that half the fun of being a Muso. Thanks again dave and keep it reel! :)

Yeah, man!

The 644 is a great unit that's highly capable. I'm glad u got the power supply, 'cause many ebayers have been left high & dry without one! Next thing u need is the manual!

;)
