Hi guys... I hearded a lot of people -over the years- talking really good about old Fender Squiers...

What model should i be looking for?
80s JV, any MIJ or something else?

Thanks! :D

(btw, i´m a drummer, so i don´t want -or need- to spend 1K on a axe... i just want a good instrument to record stuff at my studio...)

isn't what feels right playing the most desirable?

I've yet to have issues with my 2000's Cyclone... other than the wires in the back of the tremolo home being covered in like gauss.

i'm pretty sure it would be the protone aka pro tone series of strats and teles from what i've heard/read. i've never used one, but they are supposed to be made with better materials and qc.
other people may feel differently.

I would've never guessed that you were a drummer.

First time I've ever seen 'desirable' and 'Squier' in the same sentence...

when i was buying my first (and only guitar) i only had about £200 to spend. i tried out the most expensive squiers (just in my budget) and then the bottom range fenders which were out of my budget, and on a blind test, i certainly prefered the Squire, and to me it felt like the more expensive guitar with an action i preferred to the others. *shrugs* maybe that's just me being wierd, but i've played other cheap fenders since (i once broke a string mid gig, and someone was kind enough to lend me their MIM standard telecaster, and i couldn't wait to get my own guitar back, so i still reckon a good, slightly higher range squire stands up to a bottom end, badly made fender :p

that was a bit wordy, sorry :o:)

right now, i think i've got more pressing issues with gear than upgrading my guitar, though i think soon i might have out grown it, and need something a bit better, i'll try and keep this one too.

Andrew.

80's MIJ

I own an 80's MIJ Squier Strat and it plays and sounds just fine. Not better than a MIA Strat but it is a good playing good sounding guitar. It is kind of heavy but it's a keeper!

I've got a '96 Chinese Strat, just a Standard as far as I know, and it kicks the ass of any of the entry-level Fenders I've heard/played!

in '94 i bought a japanese squier strat for 900 dollars. i overpaid a little, but it was a pretty good guitar. it looked like a strat except it had a floyd rose tremolo system on it and a humbucker in the bridge pick up position. i think that when they first came out they tried to produce nice guitars and had started succeeding. i don't know what happened to make them what they are today.

George Harrisons Squier fetched $30K... a bit much for my checkbook.
Being a BEatle guitar might of had something to do with the price?:p

I didn't realise they were ever anythingg but shit cheap guitars. Huh.

I think the best Squire isn't a Squire at all - its a 1931 resonator that cost waaay too much money that my brother recently purchased

I think what gets me the most about it, is that I know he'll play it twice, and that's it. Seems like a waste.

And, end rant - back to topic.

Plus he paid way too much for that model.

Desirable Squire is an oxymoron.

I had a MIK with EMG ssh setup. Absolutely the best maple/maple neck ever. Shoulda kept it but I had to lighten the load.

Squire 51's are underated and a blank canvas for upgrades. It's like the best of a strat & tele rolled into one..
