I bought a pair of Wharfedale 8.2a monitors from zzsounds a few months ago, in January, and recently I have noticed that one of the speakers has an audible buzz and a bit of distortion to it on certain frequencies (especially at low range) and it also produces more background hiss than the other speaker. These are my first speakers and I'm not sure whether the problem developed gradually or there was a flaw from the beginning.

Has anyone else had that problem with Wharfedales monitors? Is it covered by warranty? Do I deal with zzsounds or with Wharfedale directly?

thanks
:o

Have you tried switching the cables between the monitors? If the problem switches, than its the cable or the mixer.

Wharfedale 8.2a

sorry to hear it.
zzsounds should take care of it, but you'll probably have to pay shipping.
~$40-50. Sounds like a ground loop in the amplifier or just a bad built speaker/defective build.

m-audio Bx5's are nice with a sub, same price range.

probably Yorkvilles/ART would be the same replacement, if you want to try another brand.

When i heard the bx5's i wasn't impressed. Maybe because it was at GC and nothing seems to be in decent condition but they just didn't do anything for me. As for the posters problems, check the cables first. If it's just one, switch the cables and see if you get the same results with the other speaker indicating the cable is bad. zzsounds seems to be good with returns so if there is a problem, you may be in luck. I personally love krk's if you plan to do something different. I could only afford the rocket 5's but the v series sounds excellent. I do mostly hip hop and they seem to fit that style of music well.

surrender to the sub

hell, when i first heard the Bx5's at GC... I laughed...
compared to all the others. also laughed at the KRK V4's for $500! 4" for $500!!

but add a sub and its a whole notha story. they melded in with a sub better than my two other pairs of 6.5" types.

and for the KRK V4"...i just ate crow...

the more you learn the less you know, as they say.

The thing about the bx'5s is that they work so well because they have a crossover when paired with an m-audio sub. Easy to do with any moniters, home speakers, car speakers, speakers in genereal. I just think the bx'5 get too good of a reputation on that fact alone when it is easy to do on any type of speaker imaginable.

mini + sub

yeah, i'd go with that on the crossover and small speakers...
long as they ain't KLH.

don't know why, but i find this Wharf china 8.2a interesting.
the hype was like fhkng beatlemania for a few weeks, then all this bad QC, buzzing, leds not working, monitors not shipped...and it disappeared like a one hit wonder off the charts.
yet, the Wharf passives that started the hype, still have near zero complaints with happy customers.

the good sht always has the endurance...like the Shure SM57.
good-cheap-stuff....DMP3, RNC..etc..
