Look into the "Line6" delay modelers. I think you could find that a old Echoplex or Univox tape delay or maybe a Roland Space Echo used..after all its the real thing..But for versitility maybe the Line6 unit would be best{I've never tried one myself} Good luck.

ECHO- echo.... echo... echo...

I havent tried all of those but i do know one thing about boss and that is for anolog sound i always found it would fall a bit short. thats just my two bits

Line 6 Delay Modeler is more expensive but you get so many possibilities in one unit.

The Boss pedals are good and they are affordable and built to last. I had a Memoryman years ago but haven't played one in a long time....they have a unique signature lo-fi sound.

I use a Guyatone MD3 delay. It's digital but it sounds more analog than most of the things mentioned so far. Guitar Player magazine raved about it so I bought it and was pleasantly suprised. $110 US.

Sorry, only in the <$200-250 range please. I gotta fork up other funds for my Engl Savage Spec. next year (>$2000)

I like to include the Maxon AD-80 as well.
More thoughts here?

for about 250 Akai makes a cool anolog sounding delay called the E1 i used one for a while and it grew on me you can even tap the tempo of the delay to fit in time with your song a feature too many guitar fx pedals are missing in my opinion

Dan-eletro makes a unit called the Dan-echo. This is not one of those little POS things, this thing ROCKS! It even has an adjustment that allows you to set the tone roll off so you can get very close to an old tape echo. Plus, it looks cool.

Take a look HERE.

I have 3

My favorite is a late '70's MXR AC powered stomp box. The funky green color matches the funky rolled-off tone. No modulation. Three big knobs that I can turn with my toe while I play. Does the feedback thing without complaint. Two thumbs up.

Second favorite is my Yamaha E1005. Big 'ol AC powered unit. Not rack mount but if it was would take up two spaces. Two inputs, one switchable mic/line. Has an old style LED input meter. The modulation is weird but cool. I use this one a lot for vocals.

Third place goes to my Boss DM-2. This one is really muddy sounding but runs on batteries and has nice buffers in it like most Boss boxes. It's also a cool metallic red.

Line 6 DM4 Delay Modeler is $249.99 right now at Musician's Fiend. I mean Musician's Friend. That just squeezes into your budget, and will whomp any single-purpose pedal out there in the price range.
