undefinedSup everybody? I want to know first off what synth is best for that westcoast sound which has the best sounds for that?
what Synth has the best bass sounds for westcoast type of beats... In case you don't know what i mean when i say westcoast I'm refering to something like on the new suga free(Pro. by Dj Quik) and the new snoop.... I know when it comes to these type of beats you need good, Bass, good rhodes chords good guitars good strings and good drums... you need good reverb effects, delays, wahs, and good appregiator effects... anything I need to know? I been making beats on the computer and I know the mpc well but I could never get the right sounds from records or off sample cd's so if you know anything please lend me hand. It would help if you could tell me waht synths were used by well known westcoast producers for what albums. any help would be greatly appreciated, peace.

Ps: If you make these type of beats hit me up with a link to your beats

Kinda Of hard

Haha, its kinda hard to get some help on this thread huh? U should ask the same question in a section that has alot more threads and people veiwin, know what i mean?

Check New Song YOU KNOW HOE

you can use just about whatever you want to create a west coast track. as long as it has hip hop style drums and some decent synth sounds. the actual style of music created depends on the one creating it.

one box i heard recently that actually had some really nice west coast stlye presets was the MC909 by roland. they even have a slight focus on g-funk with some of the styles in that box.

lazi whats good..havent heard from you in a minute..you get a chance check out Bama 2 Texas..its ove one of your old beats..you never sent anything else to me..stay in touch..peace

What gear are u using now? What kind of budget?

Like Lazi said u can use pretty much anything. As for sounds, a nice synth workstation has basically anything you would need (except for drums perhaps, but thats just IMHO).

Let us know what ur building from.

Good lookin yall. I actually already made a purchase and went with the triton workstation sampler. I tested some synths out before I made up my mind taking into consideration my limited budget and what not. MY first choice was the kurzweil 2600, this was exactly what I was looking for when i said westcoast sound. The feel of it was nice and the sounds were somehwat vintage but really bright and expressive and the rich editing features were nice. But Unfortunately I couldn't afford it and I had a great deal on a Korg Triton workstation sampler so I couldn't pass it up. Now I am pretty happy with this choice its not catering to the westcoast vibe I was looking for, the sounds are less expressive more synthetic and I cant find any good rhodes or moog basses. Overall though its a beats when it comes to making beats, The appregiator and features seemingly simplify everything and the beats come almost already made lol i think i have made like 10 bangers in the 1st 3 days but I dont as yet know how to add my combinations to a sequence or a song, that is the only thing thats only frustrating thing as of now, the sequencer. When I get my PC fixed I'll post up some audio see if yall feelin my sound! Im sure you will!

Edit: By the way if any of yall Use the Triton, can you please school me on the sequencing aspect? I read the manual and looked for help but I still can't work it to well.

Peace out!

Congrats on your purchase. I have the triton studio and love it, but if i had the chance to choose from the workstations available now I would prolly go for the Fantom X, I really enjoy the basses and e guitar on there. I think the sequencer is better as well. I am not a fan of the tritons sequencer at all.

When adding a combi to a sequence: u touch the load tab and choose "copy from combi". When you do that, you see a dialog that allows you to choose your combi and where to put it. The thing is that each element of the combi takes up 1 of your 16 tracks a piece.

I only use it to jot down ideas quickly.

COmbi2Seq

Hi d HO, I did that, BUT when i tried to add a 2nd combi I think it just keep overwriting the first combi or I couldnt play both at the same time and sometimes the 2nd combi just wont play with the appregiator. Also when I record the combi I cant seem to play it back with the effects and appregiator pattern. I don't know I'll just have to keep workin with it.

Heres another quick question, where do the sounds go after yu load them? I want to add my own wavs but after I load them I can't find the sounds in seq mode. Also can you add your own drum sounds to the pre-set drum kits?

Im not sure that i can help u there. I tried loading two combis which was no problem. One combi was loadedto the 1st 8 tracks, the other went to tracks 9-16. What happened for me from that point is when i would play the keys but parts from both combis would play. To stop this from happening. I pressed Menu>>Trk Param>>Midi Ch 9-16. From there I would change the midi channels of each track to something between 9-16. Tracks that are sharing the same channel (i.e two tracks bothe assigned to midi ch 1) should be assigned to the same new channel (i.e those two tracks asigned to midi ch 9).This Im not positive the the keyboard split stays intact after this, but i believe it should. As for the effects the is an option the copy the effects with the combi, but the last effect will overwrite the first and the wrong effects will be routed to one of the combis. I'm clueless about whether there is a work around for this. Like i said i really dont use the sequencer. Everything i just laid out was base on me play with the seq. just this morning. (i apologize in advance if something isn't completely right.)

I dont really load samples into my triton because its easier to do with software. But i know you have to load them and the assign them within a program to use them. U can save the program but will have the load the samples to ram each time you load the program for the first time. I wont have time to test that out anytime soon. If u figure it out before me let me know how it works.
