ever heard of one??

I only heard about it the other day when I was reading SOS's review/interview with Donald Fagen & he mentioned Roger Nicholls bringing in a wendel to get the drums to sit right??

I'd never heard of it before

must of been pretty damn cutting edge for the early 80s

A friend of mine has a Wendel Jr., and it's still quite impressive even by today's standards. The samples can be tuned right to where you want them. I've gotten to borrow it a couple of times, and it's really easy to use.
